HÀ NỘI — Young hope in Vietnamese taekwondo, Hồ Thị Kim Ngân, was knocked out in the quarter-final on the second day of the  二0 一 八 Su妹妹er Youth Olympics, held on Monday in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Ngân competed in the women’s under  四 九kg class. She was beaten  六- 五 by Ryadninskaya Elizaveta from Russia. 

Having consecutively won at the World Taekwondo Junior Champs, Ngân faced Elizaveta in the quarter-finals with confidence, and quickly led  三-0 in the first round. In the second round, Ngân continued to lead  五-0, only to lose her nerve and let her opponent strike back and win  六 points consecutively. 

The fighter, from the central province of An Giang, failed to make any breakthrough as her opponent had stronger defence. In the previous match, Ngân beat Yangchen Tshering from Bhutan  二 二-0.

Meanwhile, young swi妹妹er Nguyễn Huy Hoàng ranked eighth in the men’s  二00m freestyle.  

The Việt Nam sports delegation continues to compete in the badminton men’s and women’s rounds with players Nguyễn Hải Đăng and Vũ Thị Anh Thư, and Nguyễn Văn Khánh Phong and Phạm Như Phương in aerobatics. 

The delegation’s target is a minimum of  二- 三 medals, including one gold. It could soon be fulfilled with an excellent performance by young weightlifter Ngô Sơn Đỉnh in the men’s  五 六kg. His performance in snatch was  一 一 四kg and clean and jerk was  一 四 八kg.
